NewsKlaxons, Kasabian and Kooks join OxjamKlaxons, Kasabian and The Kooks have joined in this years Oxjam festival. The festival will see music fans put on 500 days of continuous music, raising an anticipated ?1 million to help Oxfam fight poverty around the world. Hot Chip, Kaiser Chiefs, DJ Shadow and Fatboy Slim are some of the 40,000 musicians expected to take part in the music events, which will occur throughout October. XFM are to join forces with Oxfam to give ?50,000 to young people to help them put on the festival. Two hundred event organisers will be awarded ?250 towards the costs of the event. Bands wanting to take part can go to xfm.co.uk/oxjam from July 24 to August 18 to take part. DJ John Kennedy said: "This is a fantastic way for the stars of tomorrow to get themselves in the spotlight at the same time as doing their bit to fight poverty around the world." My Chemical Romance's Mikey Way Gets Married, Takes Break From Band My Chemical Romance bassist ? and frontman Gerard Way's little brother ? Mikey Way will be taking a brief leave of absence from the theatrical New Jersey rock collective to get to the business of being a good husband. In a posting to the band's Web site this week, Gerard Way expressed his elation at his baby bro's recent nuptials and said, "The band has decided to give he and his wife a much needed break from the road to start a life and have a proper honeymoon and do all of the things a newlywed couple should do." The posting made no mention of just how long Way would be away from My Chemical Romance. Mikey Way was reportedly married March 8 to fiancee Alicia Simmons. The pair were wed backstage at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas before the band's gig that same evening. An ordained minister officiated over the ceremony, and Gerard Way served as his brother's best man. Legally, Mikey could not have all the band's members as his best men, although Way had originally intended it that way. "I'm very proud to announce my brother's recent marriage," Way wrote on the site. "Watching him grow up into a man and finding love makes me the happiest brother alive. I know this is upsetting news, as it is for us, but we will continue to tour with a temporary replacement until he has situated himself in his new life." My Chemical Romance have not announced who'll be filling in for Mikey Way, but the band's Black Parade Tour with support act Muse is expected to run through May 22 in Portland, Oregon (see "My Chemical Romance Bring The Black Parade To Life: John Norris Reports"). The tour's expected to stop next in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Sunday. |
